Fondation Supélec

Projects

Concretely, the Foundation funds projects selected on the basis of four criteria defined by the Scientific Committee:

. scientific value

. implementation capacity

. conformity with the Foundation’s criteria

. benefits for Supelec

International Joint Laboratories

You can participate in the expansion and/or creation of joint laboratories established between Supelec and leading foreign universities in strategic areas of research and innovation to provide our industrial partners with a major asset: a local ecosystem abroad that combines industrial activity, higher education, and research, while promoting the Supelec brand at the global level.

A few examples:

. The National University of Singapore in the field of electromagnetism

. The Georgia Institute of Technology, in the United States, in the field of multimodal computing

. The National Chiao Tung University, in Taïwan, in the field of radioelectricity

. Two new laboratories to be established between 2009 and 2011

Annual budget: 250 k€ per laboratory for the first year, 350 k€ for the second year, and 500 k€ at maturity, from the third year forward

Excellence Scholarships

By supporting this project, you enable us:

. to award excellence scholarships to students from target universities, notably in poor and developing countries

. to promote scientific programs of study, whose declining attractiveness and enrollment levels have become a major source of concern for companies and society at large

. to attract the most talented foreign students who would otherwise be hindered by their financial situation

. to reinforce connections between Supelec’s reputation for excellence and the values of social and cultural diversity, through effective public relations programs

Annual budget: 300 k€/a year

Teaching and Research Chairs

Supelec chairs are partnership creations, whose scientific direction is shared by Supelec and one or several of its partner companies, who together define their themes and governing rules.

Endowing a named chair promotes high-level research through the recruitment of leading international research faculty and encourages professional mobility.

In 2009, for example, a joint Supelec/Centrale chair on “Systems Science and Energy Challenges” was created, in partnership with EDF.

Future chairs in need of endowment will be defined in collaboration with partner companies.

Approximate budget: 250/300 k€ per year, per chair (over 3 to 5 years)

CSO 21: Centrale Supelec – 21st Century Institute

CSO 21 is conceived as part of the Campus Plan, which promotes broad cooperation between the various institutions involved (research institutions, higher education institutions, companies). It will contribute to, and benefit from, the increased competitiveness of the Plateau de Saclay campus and serve as a point of departure for the Collège des Sciences et de l’Ingénierie (Science and Engineering Academy) which will unite the University of Paris XI, Ecole Normale Supérieure Cachan, Ecole Centrale Paris, and Supelec.

What is CSO 21?

. 1000 m2 dedicated to systems science

. a space ideally suited for conferences and awards ceremonies recognizing the best work in the Supelec and Centrale Paris excellence fields

. a think tank whose studies will address the economic and social issues of tomorrow’s world

. home to the C3S Carnot Institute’s administrative office, as well as two additional laboratories:

·        The Risk and Uncertainty Management Institute

In the design of products and services, uncertainty represents one of the major challenges posed by the complexity of tomorrow’s technologies (nanotechnologies, biotechnologies, etc.). The aim is to develop theoretical concepts, methods, and tools to assess and minimize risks, and to define and optimize appropriate strategies.

·        The European Embedded Control Institute

Created in 2006, this institute deals with the various integration, research, and dissemination activities conducted within the framework of the HYCON Network of Excellence (Hybrid Control). The field of networked embedded systems has become essential to our daily lives.

Annual operating budget: 250 k€
